VFW State Convention finishes on a Two Wheel High

The VFW State convention was held in Colorado Springs from the 15th to the 19th of June.  Elected VFW Warriors leaders from across the state gathered together to ride, discuss the way ahead and plan future events.  The Warriors held three primary events during this short period of time.

On the 15th of June, 7 Warriors rolled through the high country to show Warriors from District 3 and 10 the great riding we have here in the District 5.  We rode from the Springs to Canon City and rode the Skyline ridge.  From there you can see 20+ miles in any direction.  Don't look down on that skinny road, it would be a long way down.  From the Skyline ridge we moved out to the Royal Gorge and turned right toward Guffey, CO.  Guffey, CO is a town where time has stood still.  There are buildings from the old mining days and the views are incredible.  The group stopped for lunch at the Guffey Bar and Grill to enjoy some of the local dishes.  After the break we headed across the high mountain roads towards Cripple Creek.  As we passed through Cripple Creek we could not help but wonder how the town looked in the old days.  We were all thankful for out motorized steeds.  Down the pass from Woodland Park and back into the Springs we realized how strong the sun was as several Warriors had some quality biker tan lines.

On the 16th the senior leadership from across the state met for a great exchange of information and updates.

District 3 VFW Post 4334, Ault, CO briefed their Honor Flight Motorcycle Run on the 9th of July 2011.  The Honor flight provides WWII, Korean War Veterans and Purple Heart recipients a flight to the nations capital to visit the various memorials. Proceeds from the run will be help support the costs of local vets on the Honor Flight.  For more info contact Dave @ This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. District 10 - Denver area briefed their car and bike show on 25 June at Post 4171 in Golden.  The event has been growing and should be a great turn out.

District 5 - Colorado Springs area briefed about the incredibly busy summer rolling up the Dart Run, Defender of Freedom Ride, Red River & Salida Run, and the BUFA Run.  Upcoming events, Warrior support for the Fort Carson 4th of July (on 3 July), 4th of July Parade and Picnic in Monument CO, Top of America Run new date of 23 July and the Vets for Vets run on 10 Sept 2011.

Steve AKA Skidd-r - the VFW Warrior Colorado State Chairman gave updates on the National requirements and the new guidelines that Colorado has already met. He also gave some great news that District 1 was going to be fully recognized and established with approximately 30 days.

On the 19th of June Warriors met at Post 3917 in Security for a great VFW breakfast.  Once the bellies were full, coffee was gone 20 Warriors departed for departure ride across Colorado Springs across Mesa Road for an incredible photo opportunity.  We then rolled through Springs-West out to Franktown, CO. for lunch and departure of our Northern Warriors.

Thanks to all the Warriors for their support of the VFW Convention and spending their fathers day with the Warriors.
